Student Guidance
What do I need to do to prepare for class?
Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in, and protects your dignity.
People often wear an extra layer for warmth at the beginning and end of each class.
Yoga is done without shoes, typically (but not always) in bare feet.
It is customary to remove shoes before entering a room where yoga will be practiced.
Be mindful that the smells you like, others may find unpleasant. Avoid wearing perfumes and colognes.
Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach. Avoid eating at least 1-2 hour prior to class or more for heavy meals, but stay well hydrated.
What should I bring to class?
You will need a non-slip yoga mat.
New students are welcome to borrow a mat for the first few weeks (currently not possible due to COVID-19 measures).
Mats are available in sports shops, discount stores and online (e.g. www.yogamatters.com).
You may wish to bring some water.
What does the teacher need to know about me?
Always inform the yoga teacher about any injuries, health problems, or pregnancy.
Most health conditions can be easily accommodated.
What about during Class?
If something does not feel right, don’t do it. Modify or ask for an alternative.
If you are offered hands on adjustments during in person classes (currently not possible due to COVID-19 measures),
you choose whether to accept or decline. We want you to be comfortable.
Take personal responsibility for your practice – listen to your body.
Enjoy it!
